Austria, officially the Republic of Austria, covers an area of approximately 83,879 km² and has a population of about 9 million (2025).
Its capital is Vienna, considered one of the most beautiful European capitals and a global center for classical music and arts. The official language is German, alongside recognized minority languages like Slovenian, Croatian, and Hungarian.
Austria is located in Central Europe, bordering eight countries: Germany and the Czech Republic to the north, Slovakia and Hungary to the east, Slovenia and Italy to the south, and Switzerland and Liechtenstein to the west.
Its landscape is predominantly mountainous, with the Alps covering most of its territory. The highest peak is Grossglockner at 3,798 meters.
