France, officially the French Republic, covers an area of approximately 643,801 km² and has a population of around 68.6 million (January 2025).
Its capital is Paris, one of the world's most famous cities culturally and touristically. The official language is French, and English and Spanish are widely used in tourism and education.
France is bordered by Belgium and Luxembourg to the north, Germany and Switzerland to the east, Italy to the southeast, and Spain to the southwest. It has coastlines on the Mediterranean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean. The highest peak is Mont Blanc (4,808 m), and the lowest point is the Rhône River Delta below sea level.
The system of government is a semi-presidential republic. The current President is Emmanuel Macron, while the government is led by the Prime Minister.
